Delegates gathered outside Hospital Austral i Buenos Aires

This year's EXCO and Council meeting in IFHE was decided to be held in Buenos Aires.
The meetings took place at the same time as the 20 Latin American hospitals congress.

The meetings were held in the Centro Cultural Borges.

FSTL was represented by Vidar Smalås and Ole Rist. Ole Rist was obseravator in EXCO as FSTLs representative in EXCO, Erik Høibjelke was unable to participate.

Trip to Buenos Aires are long and went via Paris with Air France. The travel from Paris to Buenos Aires took 13 hours.

We arrived in Buenos Aires thursday 29 otober 2009 in the morning and went directly to the Congress the same afternoon as lectures then would be in English.

We heard lectures on
- Health Care Technology in East Africa
- Energy effieciency in hospitals and health care buildings
- Architectural Engineering Approach for the Control of Airborne Infection
- 3E 3S Architecture and Facilities planning

Friday was reserved for hospital visits.
We saw a relatively new hospital, Hospital Austral. North of the city.
The hospital was located in the beautiful surroundings with green fields around it all.
It was obviously a result of a lot of work with landscape architectures.

The main task for the technical operation was cooling and we were impressed with the fantastic fire sprinkler system with huge pumps and its own generator.
The patient had great one-bed rooms with good beds and good equipment in general.
Few of the products we use in Norway were seen.

A great modern hospital in the private sector.

After the hospital visit the EXCO meeting was held.
There were no controversial issues.
It was agreed to remove Amek from Kenya's annual fee for 2006, 2007 and 2008.
The day concluded with dinner and tango show at Cafe de los Angelito.
Very spectacular.

Saturday was set aside for visits to Colonia de Sacramento in Uruguay at the invitation of EXCO member Pedro Elzaurdia.
Trip across the Rio de la Plata went by hydrofoil about 1 hour and the river is about 60 km wide on the crossing site.
Pedro explained the creation of the city and it was an interesting tour of the historic sites in town.
We were served delicious food in one of the oldest and nicest restaurants in town.
On the return trip in the evening we had the opportunity for duty-free trade on the hydrofoil.

Sunday continued with the Council Meeting.
Prof.. Nagasawa from HEAJ in Japan talked about the progress in the work of the event in Tokyo 17-19 November next year.
He also mentioned the hospitality of the Norwegian embassy in the evening 16 November 2009.

Ole presented the progress in the planning of the Congress in 2012. The interest in Hurtigruta does not seem to vanish.

Vidar talked about FSTL’s work in general, beside the congress preparations.

FSTL received praise from the president and the secretary general for the contributions that are made to the home page of the IFHE.
We had entered an amount in the budget for 2010 so that FSTL IFHE may bill for this work.
FSTL will be able to charge about 6000, - norwegian kroner this year for WEB-site work.

Secretary-General Bernard Shapiro indicated clearly that he saw the work that Secretary-General concluded in 2012.

Furthermore, Council confirmed all the decisions that were made in the EXCO.

The Congress and the meetings in Buenos Aires was arranged in a good spirit and in beautiful surroundings in a growing city, Buenos Aires.
